Oil Rises for First Time in 5 Days on Rate Cut Speculation
Tuesday, October 07, 2008
Bloomberg -- Oct. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Crude oil rose for the first time in five days as an interest-rate cut in Australia triggered speculation that other central banks will ease policy to shore up economic growth.

Oil also rose on speculation OPEC, due to meet in December, may trim supply. Libya's top oil official called for a cut, while Qatar's oil minister said it's reducing output in line with official quotas. OPEC President Chakib Khelil said the group will take ``appropriate measures'' to stabilize international markets.

``We'll see more commitment from central banks that will help the market in the short term,'' said Hannes Loacker, an analyst at Raiffeisen Zentralbank Oesterreich in Vienna. ``If prices fall to $80, the possibility of OPEC cutting before its December meeting increases.''

Oil prices have gone down since this article but I believe after the credit crisis and the stock markets settle down the tread is going to reverse...with a vengeance.

The world runs on oil and its getting scarcer. Demand may slack off quit a bit but no where near the level the current price of a barrel suggests.

Greed, pure and simple greed. OPEC went for years okay with oil at $45 a barrel, now they want to keep it at $100 a barrel. Now more than ever we need to shove their oil back up their butts. Keep conserving America until we can find and develop alternatives.

As long as we keep our minds on conservation, such as not letting your car idle for an unnecessary amount of time and not flooring it when the light turns green then the demand will keep dropping and the price will keep dropping as well.

Demand has slowed, so oil prices dropped. Now they will slow production
and make it more in demand. Witch will raise the price again, even at
less output. I'm pretty sure the price will spike before X-Mas.

Welcome to the new age of economics.

OPEC is reaching the point where it can't afford any cuts without wrecking their own spending plans. Most of these countries don't have any other exports.

Many people keep forgetting that we purchase most of our oil from Canada. But the global market still has a hand in the price we pay for that. Even if we do not bid for OPEC oil, other countries like China do. So when we don't buy, they do. But like most customers of any commodity, they too want it at the lowest possible price. Until we no longer purchase any oil from anyone, we will always be at the mercy of the global economy for the price of oil. The price we pay the Canadians is in direct results of what other countries pay for OPEC light, sweet crude.

The dollar is used because of an agreement between the oil companies, US government and Saudi Arabia after the take-over of the oil fields. There is no good reason to keep gasoline prices high.

Remember, oil is traded in a GLOBAL MARKET that just happens to be price in US Dollars (only because we are the worst addicts, the biggest wasters and users of oil)

Other Countries have taken steps our politicos lack the guts to take - keep the cost of gasoline way high so people change habits, seek alternatives, and conserve... in the perpetual campaigning of Washington, suggesting such a move would be suicide and would cost a brave and far-sighted individual his/her seat...

And teh addicts scream for a cheaper fix... deafening, and I don't want the Middle East running my country!

The fed threw out their last ace in making this rate cut. Any rate cut after this would only spur inflation. If this country isn't in a depression, I sure am. :( I truely hope the worst is over.
