I drive as needed; ride bicycle to work a couple days per week, and that has saved a few bucks on diesel for the VW. We learn to consolidate more errands if driving is necessary - used to brag about diesel always being a little cheaper than unlead, but not this year!

At this point 20% could and did travel, and 1% used alternate plans and 1% were not sure, leaving 88% THAT DIDN'T TRAVEL OR CURTAILED THEIR PLANS.

So much for living the American Dream..... or have we decided on a new American Dream.... maybe based on what's left??? Good Luck

My travel plans were set in stone as they say for about 6 months now so didn't affect us either way. But shell shock abounds when we saw prices posted at 1.62/L in Australia (about 6.40/g US). And that was gas.... diesel is MUCH higher!

Made it back from my 1500+ mile trip. I did notice NW IN was the highest price I paid for gas in IN, KY, GA, KY and back in IN. Strange we use to have lower prices. Must be our turn.

We're in the middle of a 3200 mile road trip. My Toyota Sienna minivan got over 30mpg on one leg of the trip. I stayed around 65 to 70 mph. So far I'm averaging over 25 mpg.

So far it hasn't cost us much more than it did last year. We're making our own sandwiches at lunch stops which saves us around $25 for a family of four. All the hotels we're staying at have breakfast, so that saves us some money. So far, it's more than made up the difference in the cost of gas between this year and last year.

I'm seeing a LOT of foreign visitors at places like Yosemite National Park and San Diego.

I've found it hard to believe that I keep my minivan at around 58 miles per hour that I get almost 31 miles per gallon on the open road at about a mile in elevation (Albuquerque, New Mexico area). I have a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country that weighs in at 4200 pounds. No cruise control turned on so I can slow down uphill and speed up going downhill. So my speed went down to around 45 as I went up hills and as high as just over 80 (speed limit is 75) as I went downhill. I have a trip computer that monitors gas mileage and got over 80 miles per gallon at those speeds downhill. The average on a 160 mile trip was 30.8 (actual when I filled up). So I took a short trip, but not to Ohio like I wanted to if gas prices were at $1.50 or so.

We had promised our son a trip and simply had to choose as to other expendatures and the trip. We had to eat the cost which we would have not done if not for our promise to our son. The point of this is that we could not properly answer the question. Had we had the choice, we would have not made the trip because of gas prices.

Yes it did very much. We decided to not travel at all and stayed home and did projects around the house and garden.

Much more stress free also by not fighting traffic and high fuel costs. It may become a habit also.

Just got back from 1500+ mile trip. I lowered my speed to 60 to 72mph and averaged 29.3mpg. in my Buick LeSabre. I was amazed at the people still flying by me. I did see fewer people on the road.

My mother passed away. I completely forgot that this was a holiday weekend until we were trying to get flowers on Monday for the funeral.
No plans anyway before this.

ə i chose "alternate" as my car was (and still is) out of service.
a friend came in from out of town for a visit, and took me to my parents' graves in northern missouri, where i put out the flowers. the trip benefited him also as he got in several new counties, and i was able to ride as my moniker indicates (doesn't count as _driving_, but is figured separately).
it was a very nice trip overall, if somewhat tiring. ə

My brother was going to the same place we were, and he was driving right by the house on his way, so we changed our timing a bit so we could share one car and save a little fuel.

But that had little to do with the prices, it was more about saving fuel.

With the price of gas and of everything else going up and being retired
and on a fixed income we will be spending a lot more time at home.
