That doesn't seem to match the described failure mode, either.
This may sound like a lame suggestion, but I think he should clear cookies, clear browser cache, restart browser, and try again. Also consider logging in and posting from a different machine (e.g., yours, or a free access computer at the public library). This will tell you whether the problem is client-side or server-side.
Oh -- if he has cookies disabled for some reason, better re-enable them for the GasBuddy sites; it won't work properly without cookies, as I recall.

gasfreak1234, While the search (topic or message) function is not case sensitive, the spacing has to be correct. Wonder if that is the problem you're having?

Just went through a news thread, I guess I was wrong, found a new member's post, I have just never noticed before... Not sure what your friend's problem would be gasfreak1234.... I do know for a fact though if you have someone on "ignore" you will not see threads created by ignored individuals nor their posts, as I have approximately 700 people on "ignore" (I hate seeing "OK" posts in news threads).
EDIT: I agree Scout, after further review, I see your examples too.

Hate to burst your bubble but this and this and this don't support that theory.
Unfortunately, new members can start a topic in any category in the forums.

I'm sorry, I stand corrected, I believe that a new member is able to start a topic in the "Talk Back to Us" section, but not in general through the rest of the site.
It has been like this for awhile, it is a hypothesis on my part, as when you read other sections, local and system wide, how often do you see a post or thread submitted by a new member? Personally, when reading the news topics for example, I can't recall the last time I read a post submitted by someone that did not have a car icon.

They didn't. New members can start topics. You don't have to look any further than this thread as an example.

Unfortunately EZExit that isn't the case. There are way to many instances where a member who just joined will start a topic and everyone can see it.

I believe that posts and topics posted by a new member is hidden from the general membership until after either the account has aged to a certain date or the number of points meets a minimum criteria. This is to prohibit people from creating an account to immediately spam the forums. I hope this information helps.

I think that after an accidental ignore, the failure mode would be that the topic isn't listed *at all* on the page for its category, rather than being listed with zero messages in the thread.
Has he tried posting a message to an existing topic? (Use the "Just For Fun" category if it's going to be a practice message only.)

Could you have accidentally set an ignore for his handle?
