Here's a question to ask:
Do you think Gas Buddy Mobile apps should be able to zero or clear prices mistakenly entered for grades of fuel not served at a particular station? (yes or no)

I feel this should be posted as an opinion poll to get more info out to members as member polls are not seen very much.

I would suggest we don't differentiate between poll types, as member polls seem to be so infrequent and invisible to most users anyway.

You are correct TX, there are no dates on Member Polls. Also, there has not been a new one posted for over three years. The last one asked, Do you have a Facebook account?, which is a pretty stupid topic for a member poll IMO.

I just looked at the member polls, and am I missing where the date of the poll is listed (other than clicking into the discuss first and checking the date of the OP?). Seems to me where it says current question there should be a date. Apparently the last poll was about some previous changes?

Which response best describes your participation in the weekly gas prize drawing?
• I cash out all points each week and claim my free ticket • I cash out when my points build up to 4 or more tickets • I cash out when my points build up to 13 or more tickets • I cash out when my points build up to 52 or more tickets • I'm saving my points for a huge cash out • There's a free ticket? .......sounds good to me

Let’s have a member poll on the new color scheme. I don’t like the dirty, washed-out blue used for most of the links and I’ve read other complaints. It is hard for aging eyes.
The links to the member-profile pages are bright blue as links ought to be. All of the other links on this page are faded, look like they’ve been left out in the sun for months. The links to topics on the Forum index pages are also dirty, faded blue.

I’m saving my points until GB offers gas cards for a brand that sells ethanol-free gas. In this area that would be Liberty or Royal or Southern States as well as a number of local stations. I do not want contaminated gas even if it is free!

I suppose never/rarely is the closest match, but since it's conceptually different, it does seem like it deserves a separate line. "I don't participate", maybe.

What if I have over a million points and have rarely purchased a ticket? The only time I've purchased a ticket is when I was new to the website and didn't know what the tickets were for.

Decent thought.
Something like: Which response best describes your participation in the weekly gas prize drawing?
• I cash out all points each week and claim my free ticket • I cash out when my points build up to 4 or more tickets • I cash out when my points build up to 13 or more tickets • I cash out when my points build up to 52 or more tickets • I'm saving my points for a huge cash out • There's a free ticket?

Why not ask a question about the free ticket that is available weekly to those members with less than 1,000 points each monday, seeing so many members are not aware of this.

With the current price of gas do you 1 - Plan trips with multiple stops in the same area to save gas 2 - Stay closer to home 3 - Limit your driving 4 - Use public transportation when possible 5 - Make trips only when necessary 6 - Drive like I always have. Don't care what it cost
There may be other choice you could add

Looks like 81% of the users on this site prefer a credit card. Time to change the FAQ back. =)
(yes, yes, ok, the poll question last week was flawed, as I'm sure not all 81% would use a credit card if the cash price were even 1 cent cheaper per gallon)

A few buddies have discussed a suggestion that we'd like to see incorporated into the weekly gas card drawing to increase our odds of winning. How about taking a member poll to see how other GasBuddies feel about it? Here's our proposal, and my member poll question:
Regarding the weekly GasBuddy gas card drawing, would you like to see:
*One $250 winner (keep it as is) *Two winners- a $150 winner, and a $100 winner *Three winners- two $100 winners and a $50 winner *Four winners- three $50 winners and one $100 winner *Five winners- each wins $50
I have no idea if the moderators would even consider implementing any new prize options, but I think it'd be fun to see what my fellow buddies think.

Like many of the opinion poll questions, I'm realizing that with this one we need to determine what question we want to ask. As much as I like them, the "only when I have a question" and "When it is discussed in a forum item" don't answer the question, "How often . . . ." Instead, these responses go to why a member reads the FAQ.
Bugc's point about subject/verb agreement is a good one. Put me in the "There's a FAQ" camp -- Otherwise, "it" in two of the responses needs to be replaced with a plural reference.
As far as getting this poll out to the members, just guessing, but once we reach a consensus here (or failing that, a vote that it is done), we probably need to point it out to a moderator and run it up the flagpole that way.
Also, I'd guess we are limited to 8 responses, as is the case with opinion polls.

> Should we add an option "Only when I have a question about something"?
That might fall under: • Once in a while
Then again, • When it is discussed in a forum item might also lump into it too.
Though I guess it depends on whether the answer will be useful to the admins. In which case, perhaps more detail is better.
Is there a limit on number of answer choices?

How often do you read the FAQ? • Every day • At least once a week • At least once a month • Once in a while • When it is discussed in a forum item • I haven't looked at it since I joined • There's an FAQ?

Oh! I thought the member polls were what popped up occasionally (I think I've seen it two or three times in the last 4 years) on either the main page, or after you submit a price from the main page. Appears at the top of the sceen, I believe in the adspace. Perhaps it was just an ad that I got tricked by? Except I believe at least one question was pretty apropos to the site.
Now I see the member poll is off the community tab.

True, there's no timestamp on the Member Poll page -- but the "Discuss" button leads to a forum topic that does have one. It's been 2 years and 9 months.

So how much activity is there in the member polls? Since there are no dates, I can't tell how long a question is run. Member Poll: How often do you read the FAQ? 6) When it is discussed in a forum item

Yeah, I only knew about it because our resident FAQ guru kwzh posted it in a local thread (and I half wonder if he only knew because someone else mentioned it in a cash/credit national thread.)
Alas, I think the way they rolled out the change (from the low publicity to the wording in the FAQ to the change itself) will cause great chaos on this site.
So here's the revised poll: Member Poll: How often do you read the FAQ? 1) Every day 2) At least once a week 3) At least once a month 4) Once in a while 5) I haven't looked at it since I joined. 6) There's an FAQ?
Part of the reason I'm suggesting this is it might help some members accidentally trip over the new change. Not that I actually agree with the change, but chaos is worse.

Wow, I wouldn't have known if I didn't see it here. This FAQ is about halfway down the FAQ list.
"When reporting prices for stations in areas that have different prices based on method of payment, we ask that you post the cash price where it exists. If the station does not offer a cash price, the standard price should be reported. "The Comments field may be used to include a note about cash/credit prices, but this is not required."

I'm guessing it is that we are supposed to report the cash price with the credit price noted in the comments field now.
I am a bit stunned that the FAQ was actually updated.

I'm also curious about the "change"?
I'd add "Irregularly" or something to that effect. I couldn't use any of the existing answers as I check the FAQ typically in response to a question or when someone else links to one.

Given the recent poorly advertised change in one of the core elements of this site, I thought it might be good to see just how useful making the change in the FAQ was without actually posting it anywhere else. (And I'd recommend this to be an opinion poll just because I think that has a wider audience than the Member polls which look like advertisements)
Member Poll: How often do you read the FAQ? 1) Every day 2) At least once a week 3) At least once a month 4) I haven't looked at it since I joined. 5) There's an FAQ?
I'm guessing most members are in the 3/4/5 category which makes the recent FAQ update on the fundamental change in gas price reporting pretty useless from a "let the members know" perspective.
OK, there's more to write about how the update was not ideally done, but that's for another thread.

Scout,
Your post in this topic about new members starting new topics in the forms has been argued to death by members in the forms. What do you think an Member poll on the issue is going to do? Unless you are looking for a member poll, you will never find it. You not get points for Member Polls, so most people would not bother any way. The last Member poll was about having a facebook account, it has almost double the votes as any previous Member Poll. That is because they were pushing that poll if memory serves me correct.

No point to having a poll on that. The actual *experiment* was tried, and it made things worse rather than better.

New Suggestion
Should new members be permitted to start topics in the forums?
- Yes after they reach 35,000 points - Yes after they reach 35,000 points and 60 consecutive days of activity - Yes after they reach 10,000 points - Yes after they reach 100,000 points - Yes with no threshold needed - No

I have come to the conclusion that foreign cars are more reliable. My husband owns a chev. and son in law a dodge truck. My daughter refuses to buy american because there are more repairs needed on them. for exampleI owned a 2001 crv and never replaced the brakes and never had a mechanical problem. I gave the car to my son, and bought a new one in 2008. He keeps checking the brakes and they still do not need repair even though there are over a 100,000 or more miles on it. only need to do upkeep and buy new tires,I now have my 2008 Honda since 2008 and just rexcently bought new tires. I never had a problem. When my daughter graduated from High school we bought her a datsun . She drove that car for years and was still driving it until there was an accident. it was a super car. It had almost 200,000 miles on it.You will not find that with American made.Besides getting great gas mileage.

Can we have a poll as to the average time between harvesting prices and posting them online?
Maybe another with comparing the time/ease of using the smartphone app versus PC based entry.
